Today I have a double makeover for you, I mean same night stand with two makeovers. I found this night stand at my local Goodwill (its been closed down since) a few years ago. It was just the right size, I needed for my daughter’s room, except for its height, which was easy to take care of. The finish was really not I wanted, but at $5, it was a steal I could not pass up.This is how it looked when it first came home with me. Had good bones, but needed a good cleaning and some makeup.
After thorough cleaning, sanding, cleaning again, and priming with stain blocking latex primer, it got its first two tone painted makeover. To get it to the desired height, the legs were replaced with these ones from homedepot, and a removable shelf was installed to utilize the space more efficiently.
After being used for a few years, it got a new makeover to match with a different bed, when it went off to university with my daughter to her dorm room.
After being stripped of all its paint with a heat gun and sanding with 150 and 220 grit sandpapers respectively, it was given a thorough cleaning once again. Then everything was stained with two coats of Minwax brand special walnut stain to get just the right desired color. After the stain was cured for 24 hours, 2 coats of wipe on poly were applied with an old rag. Again, I don’t have any pictures taken during the process.
The Drawer front is given a simple geometric paint treatment with black paint. Drawer sides and inside of the night stand body are lined with a gift wrap, and protected with 3 coats of poly.
One last shot of its journey from Goodwill to University.
I would like to know if you would have preferred; two tone painted one or two tone paint and stain combo one?
