DIY wall clock on embossed wood panel

DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelI bought this 12 inch square MDF panel with a hole in the middle from the clearance bin from a random store in my town for only $1. I think this must have been a clock at some point in time, but can’t say for sure. DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelFirst it got a coat of white spray paint.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelThen I cut the trim for the sides for this panel on my miter saw at 45 degrees on each corner.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panel

This trim had a small lip to hold the panel in place. DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelI painted the trim purple color and then glazed it with pearlescent white to give it a little oomph.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelI wanted to emboss the clock face. For that I used;

  • Speckling compound
  • Plastic stencil (preferably a thicker one)
  • A rubber squeezeDIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelNext step was pretty straight forward. I taped the stencil to the base and spread the speckling compound through the stencil applying gentle, even pressure.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panel Then removed the stencil slowly.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelLet the speckling compound dry thoroughly before moving onto the next step.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelSanded the dried surface gently with 220 grit sand paper to smooth out the rough edges.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelI forgot to take the pictures of the next step, which is painting and varnishing the surface. I applied one coat of white paint and one coat of matt varnish mixed with glitter. Next step was fixing the trim to the panel. I did that with my air nailer, This beauty is a life saver, I tell you. I took me less than 10 minutes to trim the panel. DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelI then cut a paper circle to fit inside the frame.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelAnd taped it to the clock face and marked the clock numbers on it.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelFor the clock numbers, I am using flowers. In the next steps I will show you how I prepared my flowers. I gathered my supplies;
  • Paper flowers
  • Mini mister
  • Distress stain (You can use food color too instead. I have used that in the past without any issue)

All in all I used 4 big flowers and 8 small.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelThen I hot glued the flowers onto the clock face.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelAll ready for the final step.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelNow only thing left was to install the clock mechanism. I go mine from Michaels for about $6 with 50% coupon.DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panelAnd now the drum roll please….DIY Wall clock on embossed wood panel

I am quite  pleased with the way how this clock has turned out. As you can see in the pictures, this room has really pretty pastel floral wall paper and this clock seems to be at home here.
